They are a generic caste category spanning Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh whose regional branches differ culturally despite sharing a name, the Madhya Pradesh group tracing migration from Dhar to Bastar and claiming Kshatriya dynastic descent. They are an Indigenous people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Hindi and their primary religion is Hinduism.
