They are an ethnolinguisic subgroup of the Zapotec, an ethnic group indigenous to the state of Oaxaca, Mexico and can also be known as Northwestern Pochutla Zapotec, Zapoteco de San Baltazar Loxicha, Northwestern Pochutla Zapotec; San Baltázar Loxicha Zapotec; Zapoteco de San Baltázar Loxicha, Northwest Pochutla Zapotec, San Baltázar Loxicha Zapotec, Zapoteco de San Baltázar Loxicha. They are an Indigenous people, in the Zapotec people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Christianity - Folk Catholicism. They primarily speak Spanish.
