They are an ethno-linguistic subgroup of the Mixtec, an indigenous Mesoamerican people of Mexico. They are an Indigenous people, in the Mixtec people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Folk Catholicism. They primarily speak Mixtec, Southwestern Tlaxiaco.
