They are a distinct subgroup within the broader Zhuang ethnic community in China, primarily based in Yunnan Province, particularly around Wenshan Prefecture. They are also known as 土族. They are an Indigenous people in the Zhuang people cluster of the Southeast Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Zhuang, Dai and their primary religion is Chinese Folk Religion.
