They are a French Creole-speaking ethnic community of mixed African and European ancestry that formed in the French West Indian settlement of Guadeloupe during the 17th century They are an Indigenous people, in the Afro-Caribbean people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Christianity - Folk Catholicism. They primarily speak Guadeloupean French Creole.
