They are described as a Mon-Khmer hill people of Vietnam's A Luoi and Huong Hoa districts near the Laos border, linked by ancestry to the medieval Khmer Empire and calling themselves Taoih, with a related Pa Co subgroup whose name means people who live behind the mountains They are an Indigenous people, with Ta-Oy (Tai'oh) as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Mon-Khmer people cluster of the Southeast Asian Peoples. They mostly adhere to Animism and Upper Ta'oih is their primary language.
