They are described as an Austronesian people of southeastern Ambrym island in Vanuatu, descended from Lapita culture settlers who arrived roughly 3,000 years ago, preserving UNESCO-recognized sand-drawing traditions alongside Christian faith and ancestral kastom beliefs They are an Indigenous people, with Ambrym as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Vanuatu people cluster of the Pacific Islander Peoples. They mostly adhere to Ethnoreligion and Southeast Ambrym is their primary language.
