They are an ethnolinguistic subgroup of Han Chinese originating from the Yangtze River area of China's Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces. They are an Indigenous people, in the Chinese people cluster of the East Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Chinese Folk Religion. They primarily speak Chinese, Wu.
