They are a Rajput community of Rajasthan whose name denotes the ceremonial staff-bearers who once guarded rulers and announced their arrival, now largely engaged in cultivation, service, book-binding, and tailoring. They are an Indigenous people in the Rajput people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Hindi and their primary religion is Hinduism.
