They are one of eleven dialects of Themne (tem), a language of Sierra Leone and can also be known as Banta Themne, Banta Mende. They are an Indigenous people, in the Atlantic people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Folk. They primarily speak Themne.
