They are described as a distinct Bunu subgroup of western Guangxi, officially classified under the Yao nationality, but speaking a Miao (Hmongic) language They are an Indigenous people, with Bunuo as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Yao-Mien people cluster of the Southeast Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion. They primarily speak Bunu, Bu-Nao.
