They are an ethnolinguisic subgroup of the Zapotec, an ethnic group indigenous to the state of Oaxaca, Mexico and can also be known as Zapotec, Tabaa, Central Villa Alta Zapoteco, Zapoteco de Tabaa, del sureste alto, Zapoteco serrano, Central Villa Alta Zapotec; Zapoteco de Tabaa, Tabaa, Central Villa Alta Zapotec, Central Villa Alta Zapotec, Villa Alta Zapotec, Central Villa Alta, Zapoteco, Zapoteco de Tabaa, Serrano. They are an Indigenous people, in the Zapotec people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Christianity - Folk Catholicism. They primarily speak Zapotec, Tabaa.
