They are a Scheduled Caste community of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, historically described as a wandering, gypsy-like people allied to the Sansi and Kanjar. They are organized into exogamous clans and today largely engage in agriculture. They mostly adhere to Folk Hinduism and Awadhi is their primary language.
