The Pambada of India

The Pambada of India, numbering approximately 3,800 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Scheduled Caste of Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka, tracing ancestry to a woman named Devan Pambadevi. Traditionally spirit-possession dancers, today agricultural wage labor and bidi-rolling now supplement this ritual role. They are an Indigenous people in the Other South Asian people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Tamil and their primary religion is Hinduism.
