They are an Urdu-speaking, Muslim community of Middle Eastern origins or ancestry, living especially along the Kerala–Karnataka–Tamil Nadu coastal corridor. They are an Indigenous people in the Bengali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
