They are a large community of shepherds, also known as Halumata, in Karnataka, India and can also be known as Kuruma, Mallesu Kukkalu, Kuruva, Kuruban, Hegede, Dhangar, Kuruma, Kurva, Gorava, Kurumba, Hulumatha. They are an Indigenous people, in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Kannada.
