They are an ethnic community indigenous to the hills and mountains of the Gandaki Province of Nepal whose origins trace to the Qiang people of China. They are an Indigenous people, in the South Asian Buddhist people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Folk Buddhism. They primarily speak Nepali.
