They are an ethnolinguistic subgroup of Han Chinese originating from the Yangtze River area of China's Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu provinces. and can also be known as Shanghainese. They are an Diaspora people, in the Chinese people cluster of the East Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Chinese Folk Religion. They primarily speak Chinese, Wu.
