They are described as a small community associated with the broader Kapu social grouping of southern India, particularly in the Telangana region. Their name is linked to the collection of lac (lak), a natural resin obtained from forest products.
They are an Indigenous people in the Kapu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Telugu is their primary language and Hinduism is their primary religion.
