They are described as an ethnolinguistic community of Mexico. They are also known as Huatla Mazatec, Mazateco, Shuta Enima.
They are an Indigenous people in the Zapotec people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples affinity bloc.
Mazatec, Huautla is their primary language and Folk Catholicism is their primary religion.
