They are described as a dialect subgroup of Waima (rro), an indigenous ethnic group of Papua New Guinea.
They are an Indigenous people in the New Guinea people cluster of the Pacific Islander Peoples affinity bloc.
Waima is their primary language and Protestantism is their primary religion.
