The Savalakkarar of India

The Savalakkarar of India, numbering approximately 1,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached.
They are described as a small community of Coimbatore and Madurai districts, Tamil Nadu, descended from fishermen and musicians, their name recalling a sword or fishing knife called savalam. Farming and textile mill work remain their main occupations today.
They are an Indigenous people in the Tamil people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Tamil is their primary language and Hinduism is their primary religion.

The Savalakkarar are Unengaged and Unreached, which means there are less than 2% evangelical Christian populations among which there are no known efforts focused on establishing self-sustaining churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice.

The Savalakkarar are Engaged yet Unreached, which means there are less than 2% evangelical Christian populations but there are sustained efforts at establishing self-sustaining churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice.

No longer Unreached

The Savalakkarar are No Longer Unreached, which means there are more than 2% evangelical Christian populations and there are churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice. There is still more to be done among them.
