The Pankhiya of India

The Pankhiya of India, numbering approximately 850 people, are Unengaged and Unreached.
They are described as a Sunni Muslim community of Kanpur, Farrukhabad, and Shahjahanpur districts, Uttar Pradesh, once fishermen and tortoise-catchers before the trade was banned. Fishing and agriculture now support most families.
They are an Indigenous people in the Urdu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Urdu is their primary language and Sunni Islam is their primary religion.
