They are described as a forest-dwelling tribal community of Chhattisgarh. The Bharia Bhumia are organized into exogamous clans and closely associated with the Gond.
They are an Indigenous people in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Chhattisgarhi is their primary language and Hinduism is their primary religion.
