They are described as a community of Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh districts, Odisha, who migrated from the Nagpur region of Maharashtra, traditionally dhokra metal-casters. This craft remains principal, alongside poultry farming.
They are an Indigenous people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Sadri is their primary language and Hinduism is their primary religion.
