They are described as a Scheduled Tribe of the Jaunsar Bawar region in Uttar Pradesh, spanning high-status Brahmin and Rajput groups and lower-status Kolta groups. They are agriculturists who historically practiced polyandry.
They are an Indigenous people in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Jaunsari is their primary language and Folk Hinduism is their primary religion.
