They are an Indigenous people, with Trique / Triqui as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Mixtec people cluster of the Latin-Caribbean Americans.
Their primary religion is Christianity - Folk Catholicism.
They primarily speak Triqui, Chicahuaxtla.
