They are described as an indigenous community of Suriname and can also be known as Caribbean Hindi.
They are an Indigenous people, with Indo-Caribbean (Sarnami) as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Indo-Caribbean people cluster of the South Asian Peoples.
Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni.
They primarily speak Sranan Tongo.
