They are described as an indigenous community of China; a dialect subgroup of Northern Qiang (cng).
They are an Indigenous people in the Tibetan people cluster of the Tibetan Peoples affinity bloc.
Qiang, Northern is their primary language and Tibetan Buddhism is their primary religion.
