They are described as an Amazigh (Berber) people indigenous to the mountainous region of Kabylia in northern Algeria. They are one of the largest Amazigh populations in North Africa and are distinguished by their language and strong regional identity.
They are an Diaspora people in the Amazigh-Kabyle people cluster of the Arab Peoples affinity bloc.
Kabyle is their primary language and Sunni Islam is their primary religion.
