The Khakar of India

The Khakar of India, numbering approximately 34,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Karnataka community descended from Afghan soldiers who served Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. They are named for their ancestor Kakadji. After Tipu's fall they became cooks and firewood sellers, and today work as mechanics and laborers. They are an Indigenous people in the Bengali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
