The Khamyang of India

The Khamyang of India, numbering approximately 2,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a small Buddhist peasant community of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh descended from the Tai people, closely related to the Khampti. Terrace cultivation remains their main livelihood, supplemented by trade and government jobs. They are an Indigenous people in the Tibetan people cluster of the Tibetan Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Assamese and their primary religion is Theravada Buddhism.
