The Dhekaro of India

The Dhekaro of India, numbering approximately 1,200 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a little-known Bihar community historically employed carrying palanquins and serving as retainers to local zamindars, now engaged chiefly in blacksmithy, agricultural wage labor, and cattle-herding. They are an Indigenous people in the Bihari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Bengali and their primary religion is Hinduism.
