The Pankhiya of India

The Pankhiya of India, numbering approximately 850 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Sunni Muslim community of Kanpur, Farrukhabad, and Shahjahanpur districts, Uttar Pradesh, once fishermen and tortoise-catchers before the trade was banned. Fishing and agriculture now support most families. They are an Indigenous people in the Urdu people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary language is Urdu and their primary religion is Sunni Islam.
