They are described as a Rajasthani community of hereditary genealogists and bards, descended from Brahmans who sang of the valor of kings and Rajput nobles at royal courts. Their name derives from preparing genealogies of the rich (bada, meaning big) They are an Indigenous people, with Badwa as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Hindi.
