The Nepalis of Bhutan

The Nepalis of Bhutan, numbering approximately 131,000 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are an ethnic and linguistic minority community in Bhutan, commonly known as the Lhotshampa (meaning “southerners” in Dzongkha). They are people of Nepali origin who settled in southern Bhutan, primarily during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They are an Indigenous people, in the Nepali-Pahari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Nepali.
