They are described as a Kannada-speaking community in Karnataka with historical ties to the Mysore royal system, traditionally associated with ruling, landholding, and administrative roles They are an Indigenous people, with Kempatti as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Kanarese people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism. They primarily speak Kannada.
