The Bantar of India

The Bantar of India, numbering approximately 151,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are described as a Scheduled Caste community of northern Bihar whose name derives from ban, meaning bamboo, traditionally engaged in bamboo work, thatching and fishing. They are Maithili-speaking Hindus influenced by the Kabirpanth tradition They are an Indigenous people, with Bantar as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Bihari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism. They primarily speak Maithili.
