They are described as an occupational community of India, the Badhai derive their name from the Sanskrit word vardhna or vardhika, meaning cutting They are an Indigenous people, with Badhai / Barhai as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Badhai people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism. They primarily speak Hindi.
