They are a Tanganyikan Bantu ethnolinguistic group indigenous to the Ruvuma region of southern Tanzania They are an Diaspora people, in the Bantu, Central-Tanzania people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion - Animism. They primarily speak Matengo.
