They are an Indo‑Aryan ethno‑linguistic people of the western Himalayan foothills, centered in the Jammu region of what is now the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and northeastern Pakistan (Azad Kashmir and Punjab). They are an Indigenous people, in the Punjabi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc. Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni. They primarily speak Dogri.
