The Choupal of India

The Choupal of India, numbering approximately 158,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached.
They are described as a Scheduled Caste weaving community concentrated in the Purnia and Katihar districts of northeastern Bihar, also known as Tanti. They speak Surajpuri and today work mainly as agricultural laborers while some continue weaving coarse saris.
They are an Indigenous people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Surjapuri is their primary language and Folk Hinduism is their primary religion.

The Choupal are Unengaged and Unreached, which means there are less than 2% evangelical Christian populations among which there are no known efforts focused on establishing self-sustaining churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice.

Unreached yet Engaged

The Choupal are Engaged yet Unreached, which means there are less than 2% evangelical Christian populations but there are sustained efforts at establishing self-sustaining churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice.

No longer Unreached

The Choupal are No Longer Unreached, which means there are more than 2% evangelical Christian populations and there are churches consistent with evangelical faith and practice. There is still more to be done among them.
