They are described as a landowning community of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, their name meaning prince, comprising both Hindu and Muslim sections in Himachal Pradesh. Agriculture remains primary, alongside business and service.
They are an Indigenous people in the Rajasthani people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Mewari is their primary language and Folk Hinduism is their primary religion.
