They are described as a community of Khargone, Ratlam, Dhar, Indore, and Dewas districts, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, their name meaning share-cropper, claiming Rajput descent. Agriculture remains their traditional and present occupation.
They are an Indigenous people in the Rajasthani people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Marwari (India) is their primary language and Hinduism is their primary religion.
