They are described as an ethnolinguistic community of Myanmar; a dialect subgroup of Mandarin Chinese (cmn) and can also be known as Panthay, Yunnan Muslims, Chinese Muslims.
They are an Diaspora people, with Hui as their ethnic/kinship group and are in the Chinese-Hui people cluster of the East Asian Peoples.
Their primary religion is Islam - Sunni.
They primarily speak Chinese, Mandarin.
