They are described as an ethnic group living in southern Sudan, northwestern Uganda, and northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
They are an Indigenous people in the Sudanic people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples affinity bloc.
Aringa is their primary language and Sunni Islam is their primary religion.
