They are described as an Indigenous (Adivasi) tribal community of central‑eastern India, traditionally forest‑dwelling and agriculturally oriented, with a distinct cultural identity shaped by both tribal and Hindu influences.
They are an Indigenous people in the Munda-Santal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Chhattisgarhi is their primary language and Animism is their primary religion.
