The Mavilan of India

The Mavilan of India, numbering approximately 48,500 people, are Unengaged and Unreached.
They are described as a Scheduled Caste of Kasaragod and Kannur districts, Kerala, their name possibly meaning great bowmen. The Mavilan were traditionally herb-collectors and mahouts (elephant handlers). Settled cultivation and government service supplement these roles.
They are an Indigenous people in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples affinity bloc.
Tulu is their primary language and Hinduism is their primary religion.
