They are described as an indigenous ethnic group native to the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and parts of Mount Meru in northeastern Tanzania.
They are an Diaspora people in the Bantu, Central-East people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples affinity bloc.
Swahili is their primary language and Roman Catholicism is their primary religion.
