They are described as an indigenous community of Tibeto-Burman people native to the Transhimalayan region that divides India and Nepal from Tibet.
They are an Indigenous people in the Bhutanese people cluster of the Tibetan Peoples affinity bloc.
Dzongkha is their primary language and Tibetan Buddhism is their primary religion.
